Principal Psychologist – Children’s Residential Services
Salary: Up to £70,000 per annum
Car Allowance: £3,600 per year
Contract: Full-time, Permanent
Location: Remote working with travel as required
Registration: HCPC Registered (Forensic, Clinical, Counselling, or Educational Psychology)
About the Role
We are seeking an exceptional Principal Psychologist to lead the clinical practice across our Children’s Residential Services. This is a senior position suited to an experienced, confident, and compassionate leader who is passionate about delivering high‑quality, trauma‑informed care for children and young people with complex needs.
Working remotely, with occasional on‑site visits, you will provide strategic clinical leadership, oversee psychological service delivery, and ensure the highest standards of care across multiple residential settings.
Key Responsibilities Clinical Leadership
- Lead the psychological framework and clinical model for children’s residential services.
- Ensure services operate within evidence‑based, trauma‑informed, and child‑centred principles.
- Drive continuous improvement and service development across the organisation.
Supervision & Professional Support
- Provide clinical supervision to psychologists, therapists, and wider clinical staff.
- Support the professional development of the multidisciplinary team.
- Promote safe, ethical, and reflective practice at all levels.
Management & Service Oversight
- Manage a team of psychologists and clinical practitioners.
- Oversee assessment, formulation, intervention planning, and outcome monitoring.
- Contribute strategically to safeguarding, risk management, and service governance.
Collaboration & Partnership
- Work closely with residential managers, safeguarding teams, and external partners (e.g., social care, education, health).
- Provide expert consultation and support to senior operational leaders.
About You Essential:
- HCPC registration as a Forensic, Clinical, Counselling, or Educational Psychologist.
- Significant post‑qualification experience working with children and young people.
- Proven management and leadership experience within clinical or residential settings.
- Experience delivering clinical supervision to qualified and/or unqualified staff.
- Strong communication, leadership, and decision‑making skills.
- Ability to work autonomously in a remote role.
Desirable:
- Experience working in trauma‑informed services.
- Background in residential care, fostering, or complex needs settings.
- Experience developing and implementing clinical models of care.
